A Brilliant Start: the Opening Ceremony of the World Winter Games in Turin

The World Winter Games in Turin have officially started with a spectacular opening ceremony in the Inalpi Arena! The atmosphere in the well-filled stadium was electrifying as the delegations from over 100 countries marched in to cheering applause. The Swiss delegation also presented itself full of pride and anticipation for the upcoming competitions.

The emotional highlights of the evening undoubtedly included the ceremonial raising of the Special Olympics flag and the reciting of the athlete’s oath. A very special goosebump moment for the Swiss audience, however, was the entry of the torch, because for the first time a Swiss, Rinaldo Burgener from Valais, was among the torchbearers.
The opening ceremony was accompanied by impressive show acts that impressively reflected the diversity and energy of these games. The two musicians Mr Rain and Aloe Blacc inspired the athletes and the audience alike.
The Swiss delegation is now ready to give their best in the coming days with commitment, team spirit and joy. We wish our athletes every success and unforgettable moments at the World Winter Games in Turin!
