The World Winter Games for people with intellectual disabilities concluded with a celebratory ceremony in Sestriere. At the world’s largest sporting and humanitarian event, 39 athletes from Switzerland competed. They shone in their sports and mentally surpassed themselves.
Over a good 10 months, the athletes of Team Switzerland have been preparing specifically and have mastered incredible challenges on site in Pragelato, Turin, Bardonecchia or Sestriere.
The Games are more than a sporting event – they change lives
The preparation for the major sporting event and finally the participation in the World Games is a defining experience for the participating athletes. They can participate in a unique major event and take home many unforgettable impressions. Just as important, however, is the sustainable development of the athletes, the sense of achievement, the personal bests, knowing that they have reached a goal. All this strengthens their self-confidence, their self-assurance and their independence. Thanks to these positive changes, they also master their everyday lives better.
