The basic course is divided into two modules: ‘Introduction Module’ and ‘Coach Module’. After completing both modules, participants will be issued the ‘Basic Course Certificate’. This is valid for 4 years.
The basic course ID is highly recommended for all coaches and entitles coaches to advantageous conditions when participating in the National Games. In addition, the basic course ID is a prerequisite for a coach’s possible World Games selection.

Basic Course Certificate Extension Criteria
- Revisiting the Coach Module
- Participation in a Sports Module
- Participation in National Games (as coach, athlete or Unified Partner)
- Participation in European or World Games (as coach, athlete or Unified Partner)
- Become a Sport Official or Technical Delegate at Special Olympics
Extension
If one or more criteria are met, a new Basic Course Certificate will be automatically issued after 4 years. No new certificate will be issued before the 4 years expire.
If data is missing, the Basic Course Certificate cannot be automatically extended. If the extension criteria have been met and no new certificate has been sent, an application for extension can be submitted.
