FUNCTION
Technical Coordinator
PURPOSE
Special Olympics sports are developing in Switzerland and are led by expert personnel. Regular competitions are held in this sport.
The sports program meets the demand and the strategic goals of SOSWI.
TASKS
A Technical Coordinator (TC) is responsible for the development of a sport in Switzerland and works closely with the Special Olympics Sports Coordinator for this purpose. The TC implements the jointly developed strategy and coordinates the sports offerings in their sport (competitions, Games, sport modules, etc.).
They ensure that competitions are implemented in accordance with the Special Olympics sports philosophy.
The TC takes care of the following tasks throughout the year:
– Situation analysis in the respective sport at the national level
– Defining a four-year strategy for the development of the sport in collaboration with the Sports Coordinator
– Planning all sports programs in this sport
– Any necessary adjustments to the sports regulations of the Swiss national sports federations in consultation with the Sports Coordinator
– Support and supervision of Sport Officials in the respective sport
– Participation in seminars and training courses by SOSWI
– Proposing potential participants in delegations for International Competitions or World Games
During a competition or competition preparation, the TC is responsible for the following tasks:
– In consultation with the Sports Coordinator, informing the coaches about the sports programs and training modules
– Technical responsibility for the correct execution of the competition (regulations, divisioning, start lists, etc.)
– Communication and exchange with the Sport Officials of their sport
– Deployment schedule of Sport Officials during a competition
REQUIREMENTS
The Technical Coordinator
- Is open and communicative
- Knows the sports philosophy of Special Olympics
- Works independently and reliably
- Has expertise in their sport and in dealing with people with intellectual disabilities
- Speaks two national languages
- Has good written and spoken English skills
- Is willing to travel in Switzerland
- Can be deployed as a Sport Official at a competition
RESOURCES
Varies greatly depending on the sport and project.
At least one meeting per year with all Sport Officials and one with the Sports Coordinator of SOSWI
TRAINING
Sports training (J+S or association) in his sport.
Sports Seminar for Sport Officials.
SOSWI Basic Course ID (Introduction + coach module).
Ideally, the TC is also a sports coach.
