Sport Unites – Inclusion: Exchange at Campus Sursee

On September 5 and 6, the event “Sport verbindet – Inklusion” took place at Campus Sursee. Representatives of Swiss sports and sports for people with disabilities came together to discuss opportunities, challenges and concrete steps towards a more inclusive sports landscape.

Particularly impressive were the practical examples from athletes with disabilities, who shared their experiences and perspectives. In a panel discussion, it became clear: Swiss sports must become more inclusive. Inclusion is not just an attitude, but also a process. All participants agreed that we need to work more closely together to consistently implement the goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) in sports. At the same time, it became clear that much work still lies ahead.

On the second day, the topic of major events was addressed. The Special Olympics World Winter Games 2029 were presented, and key questions regarding the organization, accessibility, and challenges of such events were discussed. The topic was complemented by the highly engaging and emotional presentations by Daniel Albrecht and Rüdiger Böhm.

The importance of the event was also emphasized by the presence of Sandra Felix, the Director of BASPO. The message was unequivocal: Swiss sports want to become more inclusive – and we are working together to achieve this.
