Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports movement for people with intellectual disabilities and was founded in the USA in 1968. Today, 3.6 million athletes from 193 countries participate. In Switzerland, Special Olympics has been represented as a non-profit foundation since 1995 and offers exercise and sports programs for children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual disabilities.
