A beginning that took courage<\/h2>\n\n

Daniel Kn\u00f6pfel is from Thun \u2013 and his story is inseparably linked with Special Olympics. He has been part of the movement for more than 30 years. He experienced his first World Games back in 1995. <\/p>\n\n

\u201cYou won\u2019t get an opportunity like this again\u201d<\/h2>\n\n

In 1994, Daniel heard a sentence that changed everything: \u201cYou could go to America.\u201d It was a decision full of doubt. But the people around him encouraged him to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Today, Daniel knows it was the right decision. All the unforgettable experiences at the Special Olympics World Winter Games, held in Connecticut in 1995, strengthened his self-confidence and motivated him to keep going in sport. Even back then, Daniel was competing as a cross-country skier. His first competition experience on the international stage. <\/p>\n\n

More than competitions<\/h2>\n\n

For Daniel, Special Olympics means far more than sport. It\u2019s the chance to show yourself, to prove yourself, and to be part of a strong community. He even captured his experiences in a three-page story about the origins of Special Olympics. <\/p>\n\n

Beyond your own limits<\/h2>\n\n

For Daniel, sport means pushing beyond yourself time and again. He\u2019s a versatile person, has tried many sports, and stays open to new things. What matters most to him is being seen \u2013 on and off the field of play. <\/p>\n\n

Equal opportunities, more visibility<\/h2>\n\n

Daniel would like to see more spectators at competitions and more attention for Special Olympics athletes. They should have the same opportunities as everyone else. And their achievements deserve recognition. <\/p>\n\n

A dream for 2029<\/h2>\n\n

His biggest dream is to be there at the World Winter Games Switzerland 2029 \u2013 in his own country, in front of a home crowd. A goal that, for him, symbolises hope, motivation, and togetherness. <\/p>\n\n

Keep going \u2013 and say thank you<\/h2>\n\n

In closing, Daniel has a clear message for other athletes: \u201cKeep at it.\u201d He thanks Special Olympics for giving him the chance to take part in competitions and to be part of a movement that changes lives. <\/p>\n\n
