Athletics

Athletics includes running, throwing, and jumping disciplines, as well as combined events. This sport offers athletes the opportunity to improve their endurance, speed, and throwing and jumping power.

Competition Format

  • Running: 50m to 5000m as well as 4x100m relay
  • Throwing: Ball Throw (Level 1), Shot Put (Level 2)
  • Jumping: Standing Long Jump (Level 1), Long Jump & High Jump (Level 2)
  • Combined Events with five disciplines (100m, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and 800m)
  • The number of registrations per competition is limited for each athlete. As a rule, athletes may register for two disciplines and one relay at a Special Olympics competition. Combined events are counted as a single discipline.

Special Olympics Switzerland is also invited to international competitions and World Games. We forward invitations to international events to athletes and sports groups who are active with us. Further information can be found under International Competitions and World Games.
