Snowboarding has been an official sport at Special Olympics Switzerland since 2008. In Snowboarding, Special Olympics Switzerland offers the disciplines of slalom, giant slalom, and, in the future, parallel slalom. The sport requires a lot of balance and responsiveness from the athletes to adapt to the changing conditions of the track and course.
Competition Format
- In competitions, a distinction is made between two levels (Intermediate and Advanced).
- The levels differ in the length of the race track, the steepness, and the difficulty of the set course.
- Snowboard races usually take place on the same day/location as the ski races. If there are too few participants, snowboarders will compete alongside skiers and be assigned to the same performance categories.
Special Olympics Switzerland is also invited to international competitions and the World Games. We forward invitations to events abroad to athletes and sports groups who are active with us. Further information can be found under International Competitions and World Games.
Through a cooperation with Swiss Ski, the development of snowboarding in Switzerland for people with intellectual disabilities is supported by the association.
